Here at the Hive, we believe in cultivating a firm academic, social, and emotional foundation to prepare students to learn and optimize their gifts. We accept a variety of learning strengths and styles and will develop an individualized approach for each scholar.

The Purpose of Education
“But for me, education means making creators.”
• Jean Piaget
Teaching a child to learn is far more important than teaching a child to memorize. At the Hive we appreciate many different educational styles, such as Piaget’s Cognitive Development Stages.
“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”
• Margaret Mead
Cultivating critical thinking skills is a vital component of education. At the Hive, we believe it is crucial for a student to be an active participant in their learning process.
“It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading.”
• Katherine Paterson
Studies show that reading to children builds their vocabulary, encourages dictation, and fosters a love for reading. As an educator, I do not need a study to understand that reading to children and engaging them in the colorful world of literature builds their confidence, imagination, and creativity.
“The work of education is divided by the teacher and the education.”
• Maria Montessori
At the Hive we value structure, respect, and manners; however, we also value a child’s imagination, creativity, and developmental norms. Children often learn through play and when applicable, we may use board games, card games, or imaginative writings. In addition, our scholars will receive individual plans for home activities.
